DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Playwork\n\n\n\nThis course is perfect for school leavers\, career changers\, or anyone interested in working with children and young people. Covering key areas including Safeguarding\, Play\, and Work Placement\, the course blends online learning\, guided lessons\, and hands-on experience at Beith Trust’s popular Summer Camp. You’ll learn how to support children’s safety and development\, plan engaging play experiences\, and gain valuable real-world skills. \n\n\n\nOpportunity for progression \n\n\n\nAfter completing the Introduction to Play course\, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to an SCQF Level 6 Playwork qualification through Ayrshire College. This 12-month course is completed entirely through a voluntary placement—no full-time college attendance required. \n\n\n\nYou’ll gain hands-on experience working 15 hours per week with children and young people in settings like toddler groups\, nature sessions\, or holiday clubs. Delivered in person or online (via platforms such as Zoom)\, the session provides a comprehensive overview of the impact of early trauma on brain development\, stress response\, and behaviour. Participants will develop an understanding of trauma and its effects\, and consider how to respond effectively and compassionately using trauma-informed approaches. \n\n\n\nKey topics include: \n\n\n\n\nThe difference between manageable and toxic stress\n\n\n\nACEs\, the 3 Es of trauma\, and common trauma responses\n\n\n\nHow trauma affects brain development\, emotions\, and behaviour\n\n\n\nUnderstanding behaviour as communication and the role of consequences\n\n\n\nProactive strategies to prevent distressed behaviour\n\n\n\nThe Regulate\, Relate\, Reason\, Restore approach to support children effectively\n\n\n\n\nIdeal for professionals working with children\, this training provides practical tools and insights to help create safe\, supportive environments that foster positive behavioural outcomes.
