Introduction to Playwork
3 June 2025 @ 10:00 – 14:00

Introduction to Playwork
This course is perfect for school leavers, career changers, or anyone interested in working with children and young people. Covering key areas including Safeguarding, Play, and Work Placement, the course blends online learning, guided lessons, and hands-on experience at Beith Trust’s popular Summer Camp. You’ll learn how to support children’s safety and development, plan engaging play experiences, and gain valuable real-world skills.
Opportunity for progression
After completing the Introduction to Play course, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to an SCQF Level 6 Playwork qualification through Ayrshire College. This 12-month course is completed entirely through a voluntary placement—no full-time college attendance required.
You’ll gain hands-on experience working 15 hours per week with children and young people in settings like toddler groups, nature sessions, or holiday clubs. Throughout the placement, you’ll be supported by an assessor and regular development sessions to build your knowledge and skills.
This internationally recognised qualification prepares you for roles such as play assistant, early years support worker, or classroom assistant—and can also be a stepping stone to further college study.
